Interviews

This has been a good, but busy week. I've had two phone interviews now - one on Friday, and another Tuesday morning. They both asked me to come in for a second interview; although, my upcoming trip to California made it impossible to work out both in-person interviews, and I will most likely only be doing the one.

After going so long with no calls or responses, it is so so so wonderful to hear positive feed back. To hear that they liked my resume, that an interview went well. It's almost more important than getting the opportunity, because it gives me hope that sooner or later, and maybe closer to sooner, something will work out. One way, or another!

Also, I'm sorry my photo blog hasn't had many photos lately. I will post some before I go! Erik got a new, enormous, bangs and whistles, 17-55 zoom. I'm dying to try it out :)

The fair, part one

The memory card which had most of my fair photos turned out to be a dud. So, these aren't the best. But they make me happy anyway, I <3 the fair.

First interview in 3 years

Whew.

I interviewed for an Office Assistant 3 position at the University of Washington today. It was a phone interview, brief, a bit casual. They didn't ask a lot of specific questions, which confused me a bit. I'm a bit used to being put on the spot - being asked the tough questions. This was more of a get to know you, what do you want in a job, what are your interests type of deal... because they intend to do another round of interviews - face to face - with the final selections. Duh, I shoulda figured that out :)

It wasn't bad, but it could have gone better. At the last minute, my nerves got to me a bit. I caught myself forgetting to breath more than once. I'm a bit worried that in some of my more nervous moments, I came off as a insincere. But, other than that, I think it went well. They were so nice, and I enjoyed talking to them so much, that it was hard to stay nervous. I think we would all get along great.

The more I hear about it, the more I want it. It would mean a pay cut, and leaving libraries.... but as Jess said, it sounds very dynamic. A great variety, a great challenge, a great work atmosphere, great co-workers.... sigh. This was a supposed to be a no pressure, if it works out, great, if not, at least I've got my feet in the water sort of interview. But, I suppose somewhere along the line it's turned into a larger investment for me. I hope this is the one.

They'll let me know soon if I'm welcome back for a second interview. I'll keep y'all updated!

So, let's be careful

Today, in a public area, I saw a man who I know to be a sexual offender. Not that he's assaulted me personally, but I've heard from women he's assaulted. More than one of them. Nothing violent... but you know, there are some pretty terrible things that people can do without actual physical violence.

This time he was browsing myspace. Myspace has this new feature - if you are trying to look at profile that is private, they suggest some public ones instead. He was obsessively clicking through their suggestions, finding *young* women, and sending them messages. I'm not sure what he looked like on myspace, but in real life, he was over 50, balding, wearing short shorts, and of course, has a history of sexual misconduct.

Yes, everything they say about the internet is true.

Be careful :(

But if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need

I've got an interview! It's in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, as an Office Assistant III. All I wanted was to work in a dept with nice people, with a good work ethic, in Seattle. And my very brief first impression is that that's exactly what this is :)

Heard back form the UW, sort of

We're starting to wonder if maybe the whole state of Washington has a culture of not letting people know when they don't get a job. Their website was updated, but no call. So, yes, that's a round about way of saying Erik didn't get the job. I'm very proud of him for putting so much work into it, sometimes it's just a matter of the applicant pool.

I'm not sure what the next step is. I still want to go, but I'm feeling so discouraged. Not sure how much longer we can hang out in limbo. Avoiding commitments here, and finding all doors closed there.

Three necklaces

I finished all three. The crystal bead in the middle is called a "cosmic ring". Very hippy, I know. But, I think they're pretty.

The one in the middle is mine, the blue one is Sam's, and the silver and dull pale pink one is Asha's :)

Oh, and the rings have nothing to do with the Olympics. I just like them!

Narnia & UW

I've heard it happens sometimes, but I can't recall a time I've like the movie better than the book version. MUCH better, in fact.

Erik and I watched Prince Caspian last weekend. It wasn't quite as exciting as the first movie, but it was still full of good stuff. A bit lyric, a bit of melancholy, adventure, and lots of prettyness. So I thought, this is epic, I should read the books! Well, would you believe the books are less detailed? They filled in the blanks in the movie, to flush the plot out a little. It's so weird!

I'm going to read one or two more tho, just in case it starts slow....

In other news, my post yesterday about the UW refereed to applications I have submitted - they have pretty consistently been getting back to me 2 months after I apply. I'm not surprised we haven't heard about Erik's job yet, and am not yet discouraged. When he interviewed, there were 4 parts to his interview with various groups of people. The largest group had 26 people... I don't think I ever want to interview for a job like that. They now have to give all those people time to give feedback. Then, the powers that be, will mull it over some. Compare with the other applicants. Probably make a safe choice - the most qualified candidate, rather than the most rockinest. Meaning that, despite the fact that Erik did a good job, and is a simply fabulous manager, it's a step up for him, and they might have a candidate who already has experience at that level.

In any case, I figure we're right on track, if we get an answer by the end of next week. And I'll post it here first, when we hear :)
