Willow tree

Ravi's christmas present

For christmas/octomas/solstice, Ravi got Erik and I each an entry in an new zone exhibit down town. It's open to all, so the pressure isn't too high, but It's been a long time since I really focused on making ... well, art. I take photos of things I think are pretty, I do little things to make out artparment lovelier, I certainly love learning new crafts. But none of these things really stand on their own, none of them are polished, or finished, or were meant to hang in a home.

So I spent a lot of time thinking about what I would do, what media, what the subject would be, how I wanted to present it. So much time in fact that I let the deadline slip out of my mind until it was on top of us.

So, this weekend, I ran all over town buying unusual fruit, matting, frames, etc. I set up the lighting the way I wanted, and waited, and waited, wand waited for the sun to come out for brief moments, and then photographed madly.

After all that, the printing went awry. It was the wrong paper, wrong size, and the colors were oh so wrong. I begged the guy running the show to give me another couple of days to reprint them - I wanted to do it right this time. Hopefully the second printing goes better!

In any case, I'm rather fond of the jpgs. Here they are, color corrected the way I like them. If they look of f to you, it's probably your monitor, because they're just right.

Dinner

I think I've finally figured out curry. We made a delightful yellow curry tonight. Here's the basic list:

curry (yellow)
tumeric
ginger
soysauce
lemon juice
olive oil
peanut oil
coconut milk
califlower
onion
kalamata olives
tofu

(I recommend a few slices of fresh avocado on the side, and a light sweet white wine)

Lately, I love cauliflower. It's the bomb. And lemon in curry. Curry must have lemon from now on.

The Oregon coast is grey

Grey and flat. In person, I usually dislike it. But I'm I like these pictures. They turned out differently than I thought they would. There's something quite sad and pretty about them. I recommend looking at some of these a little larger.

We got our first flowers of the spring this weekend. After a brief obsession with time lapse videos on You tube, I have a deeper appreciation of tulips.

I love Jen Stark

Leda found this artist. Isn't she lovely?

I'm back from Manzanita

It's not my favorite spot on the coast, not by a long shot, but I took some lovely photos, and had good company.

Cheers!

Blog anyone?

I've added a blogroll. Well, two really. The first is a list of blogs by people I know. They may not be famous writers, or New York photographers... but I know them, and that makes them far more interesting to me. The second blogrool is a list of blogs I enjoy. If I do not know the author of a blog, it has to be pretty spiffy to interest me. So I imagine it will stay a short list.

So : are any of you blogging, and I missed it? Drop me a line, and I'll add you to my roll.

We made tiny cupcakes

Erik took this picture. He took the picture and sent it to me just now..... I don't know how he knew I had wanted to show y'all, and had tried to take a picture of them this morning (it proved difficult with no camera). He must have intuited it :) He is an awfully thoughtful boyfriend.

Kahlua pudding and peach cobbler. Cobbler cupcakes are the bomb, we will definitely be making more of them in the future.

Saturday

Friday night I went to The Vintage with friends for drinks. We decided to make it just the girls, which was nice for a change. I had a blast.

Afterwards, we drunkenly rolled out my quilt, and proceeded to pick out our favorite squares, and talk color. This motivated me to finish the design, despite the cloudy weather (I've only been quilting on sunny days, for no good reason).

So, Saturday I woke up bright and early, and finished the design. I had had Erik pick me up a few new shades of green earlier that week, the greens having been a little weak.

Then we had breakfast together, occasionally interrupted by me darting into the other room to swap a square or two. (I discovered yellow animal cookies when I went to Roseburg with Jen!)

After all that work puting the squares in order, we neatly stacked them back up again. Grrrr.

Erik rearranged the computer room, and I now have a sewing station. He makes me so happy :)

Next we went to the paint store. I want to paint the shelves in the kitchen old lady rose, and bright gold to go with our old timey mint green. It sounds weird, right? I think it's perfect :)

I kind of want a yellow house.

Sunday the sun came out. I did not want to go to work. I cracked at the last minute, thinking of poor Jen opening up the library all cranky with the crazed finals week students.

These are some of the things that sparkle in our house when the sun shines.
