Passion flowers at the UW green house

The UW green house keeps irregular hours, so it took me a while to make it inside, and check it out. Now that I've been inside, I have to admit, it might be my favorite. That's a story for another post. Today, I want to show you some passion flowers. Some lucky professor/grad student specializes in passion flowers. They are glowing all over, and they pick some of each variety, and lay them out like a blanket in a large, shallow tray of water. The effect was very striking, each blossom perfectly outlined on a white background, and each variety contrasting the next.

Urban Craft Uprising, Winter 2010

Last Sunday, Erik and I went to Urban Craft Uprising, at Seattle center. I cannot believe how much it's grown since the last time we went! It was a hot bed of creativity and general hip-ness. I was so inspired, and came home with some excellent ideas. We also made some way-cute purchases, but I'll have to wait until after the holidays to share those.

The best surprise for me, was that everyone was ok with me taking pictures. I asked every vendor first, and everyone was really nice. This is not normally the case - at past craft events I have had many people very angry when I take pictures. I think this is a little silly for two reasons - one, almost everyone sells there wares online. The pictures are out there on the web anyway. And two, if I really wanted to copy someone's idea, I would but the item, so I could examine it more closely. Anyway, I am happy that the paranoia is receding.

Bella sisters from portland. I wanted to get the bird pea-coat for Asha! We were also tempted by their botanical vests, but that's a story for another day.

Owls for Jessie

These necklaces are amazing - made out of old floral china. Very delicately shaped, and hinged together. She has an etsy shop, too.

This guy wins because he matched his paintings.

Jean's booth! I have to say their overall booth design was one of the best. I also super loved her terrarium ornament kits, faceted clay necklaces, and brightly colored silverware. If you've never seen here work, you'll find it here.

There were garlands everywhere! I wanted to bring them all home for Jenna. This booth made the best garlands, and I can't wait to visit their shop down-town.

Crewel work kits, from Tako fibers. Totally fantastic designs and colors, the etsy shop doesn't do them justice - if you're on the fence, I recommend getting one :)

String of pearls in small vintage creamers! Oh how I miss these little guys. This was yet another take-away idea. I didn't realize they don't need drainage!

These were fantastic - Mochi Mochi land. Check out the tiny, fat, unicorn. Seriously.

Erik and I immediately agreed that the braids were best. Everything this artist made was so full of life!

I'm a sucker for little geo designs like this one...
