New lamp from Daiso

Living so close to a Japanese dollar fifty store has pretty much changed my life.

Painting the bathroom

We've been painting the bathroom for weeks now. It needed a new coat of paint, and Erik was getting a little sick of the greens and blue greens in the rest of the house. Pink is about as far from green as it gets. It took us a few tries to get an acceptable shade - the small room made the original color quite violent. We dumped in some greys and golds and greens, to darken it up a bit, and tone it way the hell down. This is the result - I'm not wild about it, but it's nice to have one color that probably won't freak out the landlord :)

Dogwoods continued

Here is a spray of dogwood - with fabulous buds - that has been garnishing our dining room table for the last week or two. The green flowers nestled between are spider mums - they've lasted through 3 bouquets now!

Paper wisteria

Jess discovered this lovely project : paper wisteria. I think they look so amazing, as a completed project. It would take a lot of work, but it's cheap, and very very simple.I'm liking the look so far! Now I just have to pick a color, and make a million. I'll let you know if I ever finish~!

Dyed tulip

I've been trying to figure out if I can make my own rainbow flowers, because roses are just not my thing. This tulip picked up the dye in fine, hairline streaks.

Dogwood : The new cherry

This spring has been all about the dogwood for me. I find them much more interesting than cherries, or plums. True, their petals do not snow down upon the sidewalk. And their pink is not quite so delicate. But I find the blossoms more interesting, and the leaves behind them too. Have you ever looked at a cherry leaf? They are really on the plain side - and in the case of plum, on the muddy side too. Plum leaves grow up to be that burgundy color, so when they are young, they are an odd mix of red and green... But the dogwood leaf is majestic. And who can resit their strange buds? like fingers grasped, waiting to open.

Yellow poppies

These make me think of my long forgotten tattoo, and the difficult decision between poppies, and ranunculus.

The new saturday market

Last weekend, We finally went to the UW area Saturday market. It's smaller than Eugene's market, but it's year round. They had a lot of northwest fruits and veggies, interesting plants, more flowers than you can shake a stick at, and some fabulous stuff in the food court. The food court literally kind of had it's own circluar court yard, and right next to it was a community garden. Next week, I want to get there before they run out of margarita pizza.

Ben Branagan

It's been a while since I've posted about an artist. And this may not be the best one to get back into the groove with - I didn't find an organized web page for him. But today, right now, his circles are perfection.

Pillow blanket

I think I've found my next project. I don't know how I made it so long without a pillow blanket.

Uwajimaya

So, when we have guests, we get out and do a lot of things. And I take pictures of those things, and put them into blogs. But I realized, the one thing we've done with every single set of guests, is go to Uwajimaya, and I have never taken pictures there.

So here you are, if you haven't visited us yet, here's your incentive ;)

Fuyu persimmons are my all time favorite.

like Japanese chia-pet-like things. Totally redonk, and adorable.

Lotus root. Michele discovered lotus root fries at the teapot - very tasty.

Just one small bit of a yellow fruit section. I love people who understand color... and it's a shame they didn't get their way with the whole produce section.

Fragrant sure, but edible? who knows.

Banana flower.

Good health vinegar! Available in 4 tasty health flavors.

Sake! In 5 ba-trillion flavors... I recommend the lychee. Lychee is an odd flavor, but it's very becoming on sake.

What is this???

My favorite dino-drinks! I brought Asha one, and she named it Princess Melon Gut. I have the raddest little sis evar :)

These are like big rectangular sushi's. My favorite is the shiso flavor, but they have a couple other vegetarian flavors that are also quite fab. I bought a bunch of pickled veggies in rainbow colors, so we can try making these for lunch!

These pretty shimmery fabric lanterns were everywhere, I want to get some for the bedroom.

Cute snacks take over the world! But really, they kind of do.

Flavors: kumquat, quince, red cabbage, safflower. They all taste like sugar. Yum!

Adorable Japanese nail polishes, in every color you can think of (not just nude's and reds and pinks!). Asha, that blue one is for you!
