Maybe it's just me, because I've starred at the damn thing so much, but I think the quilting helps a lot. The top piece seems a lot more interesting with a little more texture.
The cats love the quilt to an almost unhealthy extent. Aketa tried to crawl in it before one edge was pined down, and just lying on it makes them purr.

It looks so good! I love that the kitties love it, so so cute :) And I love the contrast with the binding, looks perfect.
