Cats and String

Post x-mas, playing with cats & string. The string was so striking, and the light so nice, and the kitties were so expressive... I took way way too many pictures. Wasn't sure how to narrow them down, until I noticed the eye contact pictures. They are so serious, even wrapped up in these squiggling strings. I knew I had my set.

Aketa is watching you

She knows how to work her angles

See the tension in her paws? The variety of expression? The way she catches the light? And she really moves around the frame...

(Yes, I've been watching a lot of ANTM.)

Rainbow quilt, el fin

baboon stitching....

Maybe it's just me, because I've starred at the damn thing so much, but I think the quilting helps a lot. The top piece seems a lot more interesting with a little more texture.

The cats love the quilt to an almost unhealthy extent. Aketa tried to crawl in it before one edge was pined down, and just lying on it makes them purr.

Sad Cat

So there is an awesome neighborhood kitty. He's got long soft fur, amber spots, golden eyes, and his ears bend just a bit at the tip. He is always a gentleman.

During the snow storm, he began to ask to please be let inside our warm house. Erik and I were a bit afraid of how he'd interact with our kitties, so we didn't let him in. But we did begin feeding him, and giving him little treats. He is always polite with his food, he never digs in immediately. He observes all social graces first.

A couple of days ago, we cracked, and invited him in. Hanu and Aketa did their usual hissing and spitting, but he was utterly gentlemanly. He didn't eat their food, he sniffed but did not partake of their litterbox, and he rose above their hissing, turning the other cheek. We are so in love with him that Erik say we can keep him, if he doesn't have an owner, and Hanu and Aketa can learn to accept him. If anyone can win over those two crazy ladies, he can.

Little Miss Tooth and Claw. Beguiles you with her feline wiles, and teeny tiny meows.

Kitty Wants a Snack: She's harmless as long as you're not snack competition.

I <3 summer & friends

I'm going back to Seattle again this weekend. We'll be there through Monday, I have to come back Monday evening to close up the library. Busy busy busy. This may be my last interview of the summer, and I have a good feeling about it. I think I know what I want to do long term (as well as knowing where I want to be), and this is as good a way as any to get started.

Saturday

Breakfast: I made my own salad dressing, so I've been having a lot of salads. That pear was perfect.

Erik and I are having a dandelion photo competition. I have no idea what that means, except that I want to win it.

This tulip snuck in in the middle of a poppy study. I'm taking pictures of poppies for a tattoo I'd like to get. I've been having trouble finding the right pictures online, so I decided to take my own.

Dinner.

Hanu & Aketa

Aketa tends to sit in the dark, in the corner, and behind things. She loves to sit behind the speaker, wrap her tail around her body so that it covers her toes, and watch you.

Hanu likes to be in the sunlight, in the middle, and the center of attention.

She's very difficult to photograph candidly, because as soon as she notices you paying attention to her, she starts paying attention to you.

Needless to say, they do not understand each other.
